Botox is the first FDA-approved treatment for the temporary reduction of moderate to severe facial lines. It is a neurotoxin that temporarily reduces the treated area’s muscle activity. Botox relaxes the muscles, so lines and creases can’t form. The following are areas that may benefit from Botox injections:
Your Botox results can be very dramatic, yet appear completely natural.
As you age, the fat under your skin decreases, and your skin stretches. Consequently, your muscles appear closer to the surface, making your fine lines and wrinkles more visible.
Dermal fillers are thick substances that are injected under your skin in order to give volume, reduce and soften fine lines, and supplement the contours of your face. Dermal fillers can help erase the early signs of aging by:
There are numerous areas and situations in which dermal fillers can help correct anomalies in your skin’s appearance. You may also be interested in using dermal fillers on your hands and feet.
First, your provider closely examines your facial skin and appearance. Then, your provider carefully marks your face to ensure the correct placement of the Botox or dermal filler injections. Photographs may be taken to document your results.
The provider cleans the injection sites with an antibacterial cleaner. You then receive a numbing medication on the areas to be treated to maximize your comfort.
The Botox or dermal filler is injected underneath your skin in precise measurements. Your provider continually evaluates your response to the injections and administers additional injections where needed. Botox and dermal filler injections take about 15 minutes. The number of injections you receive issued dependent upon your aesthetic goals as well as your number of treatment areas.
After your Botox and dermal filler injections, you may experience slight bruising and swelling, mild sensitivity to touch, or tiny red spots at the injection sites. These are temporary and will fade within a few days. You can return to your regular activities shortly after your injections. However, avoid strenuous activities for 24 hours after your injections.
Individual results vary, but most patients quickly notice a positive change after receiving injections.
You’ll immediately notice the effectiveness of the dermal filler. You can typically see results for up to 18 months. Some fillers can last longer, depending upon the injection site.
After a year or two, once your results fade, you can repeat injections. Maintaining your overall health and the health of your skin can enhance your results and lengthen the duration of those results.
You may begin to notice results within a couple of days. Your final results will be visible after seven to ten days. At that time, you’ll look like yourself, only with fewer fine lines and wrinkles. The results usually last for four to six months, but this depends on the strength of your facial muscles and your lifestyle habits.
